From June 11 to July 5, 2020 at Galerie 10 Jean Jaurès, the City of Nice invites you to discover the exhibition "Visages du Vieux-Nice" by the Nice photographer Mathieu Py.
After half a life in Strasbourg and half in Nice, Mathieu Py decided to give all his time to his photographic activities. While developing his activities as an independent photographer, he pursues an exploration of processes, digital or film, and builds in parallel personal projects such as Faces du Vieux-Nice.
Nineteen years after discovering the Vieux-Nice, Mathieu Py wanted to see it from a different angle. In January 2019, with his camera in hand, he explored the streets of the neighborhood, wandering, marauding. He stopped strangers at café terraces, in front of their shops and especially in the street, asking them if he could photograph them. The exploration lasted thirteen months: Mathieu Py photographed one subject a week, convinced that the documentary nature of a photographic series can only be revealed over a long time. Students, active or retired, tourists passing by or children of the neighborhood, the set of more than 50 faces constitutes a subject in which everyone will recognize a little of his Old Nice.
