EXHIBITION NISSA LA BELLA - Treasure of the Riviera
20 MAY - 30 OCTOBER 2022
The City of Nice, the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis and Paris Match have imagined a photographic exhibition highlighting the splendor of the Pays Niçois, from yesterday to today - Nice listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as the city of the Riviera winter resort.
Nice, between sweetness of life and source of inspiration
In issue 583 of Paris Match, dated June 1960, a journalist of the magazine wrote "Nice immortal, it is the Bay of Angels of which Raoul Dufy made in 1927 one of his most famous works. We read the age of the city on its roofs: pink is the past — white is the color of modernism. Nearly 40 years later, in the December 1999 issue, Paris Match still praises the city's unique climate, its incomparable light, its architecture with multiple influences. From year to year, the magazine will not cease to unfold in its pages, the list of illustrious seduced by this exceptional territory: politicians, heads of government and figures of royalty are resourceful; while French and international artists, from the world of literature to that of music, through cinema and the visual arts, are inspired by it.
A particular alchemy that Paris Match presents in the exhibition Nissa La Bella, Treasure of the Riviera.
The Development Department of Paris Match creates tailor-made cultural events and products - exhibitions, publishing, documentaries ... - from the magazine's photographic archives and texts by calling on its expertise.
In close collaboration with the municipal teams of the City of Nice, Marc Brincourt, curator, Michel Maïquez, former artistic director of Paris Match, Charlotte Leloup, journalist at Paris Match, have built an open-air scenography, tailor-made, accessible to the greatest number: 52 large format panels, presented on the Place Garibaldi, in the heart of Nice.
" Nice has no greater asset than its image in the eyes of the world. The one that earned our city to be recognized and distinguished, on July 27, 2021, by Unesco. Nothing illustrates this better than photography, which has been immortalizing our art of living for decades by sublimating our lives, our colors, our traditions and our heritage. This is all that is highlighted in this exhibition "Nissa la Bella, Treasure of the Riviera", produced in partnership with a major press title, Paris Match, which has, for the first time, drawn on the richness of its archives in order to tell the story of our entire territory and its inhabitants.
