The origins of Saint Patrick's Day
St. Patrick's Day was first celebrated in Florida in the early17th century. The legacy left by the Irish settlers spread throughout the country. In 1762, British soldiers held a grand parade to commemorate the day. The festivities resounded in the streets of the city. The participants were all dressed in green to mark Irish pride and solidarity.
In Ireland, this commemorative day did not become a national holiday until 1930. The first parade was held in 1931. It was popularized around the world by the Irish diaspora.
