As part of "My Summer in Nice", the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropole is launching the first photo contest on marine biodiversity. A unique photo competition where images will be judged on the number and rarity of marine species!

The aim of the competition is to feed, through a form of participatory census, the Atlas of Coastal Biodiversity. Developed by the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropole with the support of the French Office of Biodiversity, this atlas improves the consideration of sensitive coastal areas from Cagnes-sur-Mer to Cap d'Ail and better to guide the protection and ecological restoration measures to be deployed. This Atlas is divided into two parts: the study of nursery areas in the small funds (a privileged place of refuge and growth of many species of fish in the juvenile stage), and participatory reports and censuses (mobilization of sea users and collection of naturalistic data).

The information gathered through the participants, in terms of the presence and location of species, will improve the naturalistic knowledge of the marine coastline of the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis.

Terms of the contest

• Competition open to all until 31 December 2020 midnight.
• Photos must be taken on the metropolitan coastline of Cagnes-sur-Mer in Cap d'Ail.
• Four categories to choose from: Posidonia herbarium, rocky bottoms, soft bottoms (sand, pebbles, sediments), specific diversity.
• Each submitted photo should be accompanied by a list of species present and different location information.
• The results will be announced in the first half of 2021 and the winning photos will be exhibited in 2021.
