LYMPIA CULTURAL SPACE
MAY 16 - AUGUST 23, 2020
Since his first paintings on display in 1947, Soulages has been producing and experimenting.
Espace Lympia already invites you to enter the world of the artist, to discover his influences, to apprehend his work in order to go further in the understanding of his artistic research.
Pierre Soulages is the most famous of living French artists.
This exhibition is part of the celebration of its 100th anniversary after the opening of the events of the Centre Pompidou and that of the Louvre with the meeting of 20 paintings from major museums around the world.
For the tribute paid in Nice by the Departmental Council, more than one hundred original works have been gathered: paintings, engraved works, bronze, illustrated books.
To better understand and know the universe and references of this exceptional painter, the testimonies and works of artists who are part of the Soulages world and his dialogues with cultures have been gathered.
The title of this event was composed by an honorary citizen of the city of Nice, Leopold Sédar Senghor, Senegalese poet and head of state who was also a friend and analyst of Pierre Soulages.
The poet was personally involved in the design of exhibitions in both Dakar and Lisbon.
These historical links allowed the choice of the poet to accompany this maralpine exhibition.
The route presents seventy-two original works painted and engraved by the artist in a chronological itinerary from 1946 to 2008. To complete the study of the artist's work, these references and highlights of Pierre Soulages' cultural dialogues take place in the exhibition in order to better enter the painter's world.
In the southern land, this Mediterranean painter's exhibition aims to dedicate Pierre Soulages as the inventor of a new painting of mysterious beauty.
