Titus and Berenice have been in love for a long time. Titus even promised marriage to his queen of Palestine. But as soon as he ascends the throne, on the death of his father Vespasian, Titus understands that Rome will never accept a foreign queen to reign at his side. He must therefore choose between love and power and renounces Berenice. Antiochus, Titus' friend and long-time secret lover of Berenice, confesses his love to the queen and decides to leave Rome. But Titus asks him to support and accompany her, which gives Antiochus vain hope.
This tragedy is a dead-end love story. Our two protagonists will heroically accept to follow their destiny without killing themselves.
