The conference:
By Annick Dubois
Convened by Paul III on 22 May 1542 in response to questions posed by the Reformation of Mr. Luther and J. Calvin, the Council of Trent proposes, after more than 40 years of debate, a frank break with medieval thought and meets the objectives of the newborn world of the Italian Renaissance. From the church to the baroque palaces populated by statues that seem flesh and cascades of putti twirling, it is a question of embodying, through Music, Singing and Instruments the passions that agitate our souls and bodies. It is this modern, innovative and creative era that invents opera, oratorio, cantata, sonata, concerto, symphony, elements that form the background of the heritage of "classical" music that will come back to life in a story where L. Da Palestrina, Cl coexist. Monteverdi, H. Biber, M. Marais, Br. Couperin, J. S. Bach; A. Vivaldi, a Homeric saga accompanied by the music that gave life to this new spirit that blew until 1750.
The conference-concert, conceived as a show, will take place in two parts interspersed with an intermission. The "conference" part will be illustrated gradually by musical works performed by the 3 musicians.
