Can we imagine that Nice has a medieval fortification as imposing as the citadel of Carcassonne! But its walls were destroyed by Louis XIV in 1706.
The old town, wich is called « le vieux Nice », was formerly contained behind the walls, located between the Place Massena (Garden Albert 1st) to the west, the old port to the east, bordered on the south by the Quai des Etats-Unis and the sea, and on the north by the Plaza Garibaldi.
This is an area that has a lot of charms, with its narrow and colorful streets and a lot of shops ... and many market (fish market, flower market, fruit and vegetable market, market books ...).
Walk around! You will be pleased to discover unusual institutions, fashion boutiques, art galleries, beautiful churches and several palaces. Admire their facades, drive to one of the many outdoor cafes or restaurants tables that make The Old Town a very pleasant place at day and night.
If you have time, go to the Castle Hillwhich will offer you an extraordinary point of view on the city.

The old Nice

This area was nicknamed “Le petit marais niçois”, refering to the swamps in Paris, because it has become the epicenter of the gay community in Nice. It is centered around the Place du Pin and the Bonaparte street, and go down to the port, Place de l’Ile de Beauté.
Trendy bars, gourmet restaurants, avant-garde concept stores, and close shops make this little bit of Nice a friendly and festives place. This is a good place to live during day and night.

It is one of the most beautiful harbour in France surrounded by the Castel Hill and a very beautiful architectural buildings.
The “pointus” of fishermen, the large pleasure yachts that make us dream, and the feries that go to Corsica, are sharing the embankments and animate this area.
We can found several excellent gourmet restaurant, and we just enjoy this moment of grace.

Nice Harbour

You will approach it by the Garden Albert 1st, the Place Masséna, and the Promenade des Anglais.
On your right, you will find the Vieux Nice, The Petit Marais Niçois and the Harbour.
On your left, downtown Nice.
With its main streets, the famous Jean Medecin Avenue splits the city’s heart in two, playing the role of a pulmonary artery, the Dubouchage and Carabacel Avenues making the right ventricle, and the Victor Hugo and Gambetta Avenues, the left one.

We will sourround it between the Jean Medecin Avenue, the Masséna Place, the Verdun Avenue, the Suede avenue, the Grimaldi Place, and the Victor Hugo Boulevard. The most famous shopping streets are the Verdun Avenue, The Paradis street, The Alphonse Karr street, and the Masséna street.

Inaugurated on october 26, 2013 by Mr Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, and President of the Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur, with Mr Eric Ciotti Deputy chairman of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Preserving the environment and the landscape, bringing back nature in town, enhancing public space, finding back happiness in town, were the main objectives at its creation.
With the demolition of the old bus station and parking, it is now a nice green promenade offered to pedestrians.
This is now a nice urban park in the heart of the city (1200 trees over 12 hectares between the The National Theatre and the Albert 1st Garden) making a link between the old-town and the city.
This new green ribbon is ideal for many upcoming cultural events; the first of them is the "Christmas Village" with entertainment and ice rink from November 30 to January 1.
Note that new technologies give life to the "Promenade du Paillon" since the water jets are managed by computer systems, and the following video is filmed by a drone.

Just take the waterfront from the Castel, go on the « Quai des Etats-Unis », up to the Furtado Villa, then come back to the Masséna Place. You can do it by foot, bike or Rollerskate.
