EXHIBITION "SEAS AND MYSTERIES" – LAURENT BALLESTA
NICE 2025 Biennale of Arts and the Ocean
APRIL 5 - SEPTEMBER 28, 2025
CHARLES NÈGRE MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY
On the occasion of UNOC 2025, the Museum of Photography is offering an exhibition dedicated to the photographer Laurent Bollesta in order to share his vision of a dangerously threatened universe. Exhibition presented as part of the Biennale des Arts.
A multi-award-winning photographer on the international scene, Laurent Ballesta is a biologist, naturalist, researcher and explorer. For decades, through his exhibitions, books and conferences, Laurent Ballesta has been highlighting the environmental issues we face today and which will be defended at the United Nations conference in Nice.
In recent years, Laurent Ballesta has focused on illustrating not the beauty of nature or the horrors we inflict on it, but the mysteries that lie behind aesthetic appearances.
Beyond astonishment or delight, these visions must question us about the complex mechanisms of biodiversity. It is a question of opening a small window, for a brief moment, on what is beyond us and that we do not understand. Approaching the unknown can elicit more respect than simply admiring beautiful images. Today, we need knowledge more than beauty. The image can bring this knowledge, and that's what Laurent Ballesta tries to do: to make us feel the extent of our ignorance through his photographs and the mysteries they reveal.
