JOURNEY THROUGH THE COLLECTIONS OF THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
2 DECEMBER 2022 - 15 AUGUST 2023
In its new hanging, the Jules Chéret Museum of Fine Arts highlights the works of its vast collection around different themes.
For the oldest periods (thirteenth – eighteenth centuries), it is a question of discovering the evolution of the representation of the Virgin in painting.
A selection of sculptures dating mainly from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries invites us to take an interest in the drapery as a symbol or as a decorative effect and, more broadly, in the intention of realism that dictates the rendering of faces and postures.
The progressive changes in the relationship of artists to reality in the nineteenth century, which are reflected in the way of painting and sculpting, are then explored through the works of Marie Bashkirtseff, Louise Breslau, Gustave Courbet or Constant Troyon. For the twentieth century, works by Pierre Bonnard, Charles Camoin, Marie Laurencin and Raoul Dufy suggest Modernity in the arts.
