In the early 1860s, a few years after Nice's attachment to France, Boulevard Dubouchage was originally thought of as the northern "border" of the city, according to the urban plans established by the Consiglio d'Ornato in the 1850s. Indeed, beyond that the campaign was still stretched...
A wide straight lane lined with plane trees, Dubouchage Boulevard gentrifies itself, adorning itself very quickly with elegant apartment buildings and magnificent Belle Epoque villas; 1896 the land use is almost complete! A Russian princess with a tragic story, great love of Tsar Alexander II, even decides to take up residence there... On the ground floor of the apartment buildings are cafes, shops, banks, law firms and medical offices... Not to mention places of art and entertainment! The famous Theatre of the Artistic (now recently reopened) moved to Dubouchage Boulevard in 1910. Great artists and speakers parade there: Chéret, Mossa, Saint-Saen, Edouard Herriot... Among the spectators: Colette, Puccini or Mata Hari!
Even today, the plan of the district has hardly changed since the end of the 19th century; so it is not surprising to find a majority of old buildings that we will have the pleasure of admiring. The pinnacle of our visit will undoubtedly be the Roman Gary Heritage Library. This former Belle Epoque villa, converted into a municipal library in 1925, is today rich in tens of thousands of precious works divided into several funds...
