This visit will also take place on Saturday, September 19 at 10am!

A hill with vegetation and rare inhabitants until the late 1850s (if not the eccentric English Smith and his funny castle), Mount Boron experienced a real metamorphosis - the origin of its success - from 1862, thanks to the reforestation of the hill as well as the opening of the new road linking Nice Villefranche on the sea (now Boulevard Carnot).

At the foot of the hill, the urban development of the Lazaret district in those same years also attracted wealthy owners with the gradual development of the Boulevard de l'Empress (now Boulevard Franck Pilatte).

The attractiveness of the Mont Boron and Lazaret districts will explode at the Belle Epoque (1870-1914): many wealthy winterers, both foreigners and French, will build magnificent villas with beautiful gardens (Villa Vigier and its impressive exotic park, Villa Beausite, Château de la tour du Mont Boron, villas Castor and Pollux, Palais Miramar...). At the same time are the entertainment venues, like the well-known restaurant La Réserve, which will offer a time to dine in a fake cement sailboat...

The district continued to be a great success during the Roaring Twenties (1920-1930) and developed ever more urbanally, with the appearance of Avenue Jean Lorrain which would connect the Boulevard de l'Empress with Boulevard Carnot. Sublime Art Deco villas will appear, like villa Marichu with its false airs of maritime fortress....

With this visit, we offer you a time trip within the Cap de Nice of the Belle Epoque and the Roaring Twenties in order to better understand the current district and the origin of its success! A beautiful walk in perspective...

The route will include Franck Pilatte Boulevard, part of the Gurnée Trail and part of Carnot Boulevard.

Warning: this visit will require going through a relatively steep staircase (Gurnée trail) in order to access a beautiful view of Nice from Carnot Boulevard.

Warning: The Château de l'Anglais, villa Beausite or the Château de la tour du Mont Boron are private properties. So we won't be able to visit it inside.
