NICE MEDITERRANEAN BALLET

The Nice-Mediterranean Ballet of the Nice Côte d'Azur Opera will offer a show composed in two stages with first of all with the first of the Three preludes choreographed by Ben Stevenson: to music by Rachmaninov, then a rhythmic sequence of choreographed sequences, video-printed and commented on Luciano Cannito's ballet Cassandra on original music by Marco Schiavoni including works by Camille St. Saul, Sergei Prokoviev and Elvis Presley.

From the 1960s, when she participated in the performances of the minimalist and avant-garde collective of the Judson Chruch to Oceana, which she created in 2011 for the Ballet Nice Méditerranée, Lucinda Childs has never ceased to support her quest for perpetual movement. The repetition of the gestures and their multiplication led her to invent a fluid dance that follows and finds its strength in its eternal restart. Oceana is a choreographic melodle woven from an initial fragment that unfolds into a sumptuous lace.

A pas de deux always says the same thing: the experience of two people whose minds are in unison and who entrust their bodies with the task of expressing it. Norbert Vesak's Pas de Deux de Belong is a monument to it. The connivance between the dancers is total here. It is she who keeps us in suspense during the ten minutes that this choreography that rises crescendo. In 1980, Belong brought the audience to the crowd discovering this work for the first time at the international dance competition in Varna, Bulgaria.

5 Tangos

5 Tangos is a summit meeting between classical dance and the music of Astor Piazzola. The sharp spikes of the girls respond to the solemn arabesques of the boys who follow the pizzicatos of the double bass. Each accent of the melodic line finds an illustration that is sometimes supple and sometimes harsh. Tango is this subtle blend of gravity and fantasy that makes dance an art between life and death. Everything is incisive and precise, but the performers never give up the beauty of the movement, made here more sensual and still lasciful by the amplitude of the classical vocabulary and its carried.
