The pas de deux! Since the 18th century, this is a much-anticipated moment in the middle of the ballet show. It symbolizes the love of the couple and often takes place in a poetic atmosphere. Marius Petipa has fixed its structure, made of adage, a male variation, a female variation and a coda. At the time, this allowed the male dancer, until then confined to a role of the solo dancer, to give a fair place to his own expression and virtuosity. The 20th century continued the tradition of pas de deux, evolving it into a modern language.
This evolution of the pas de deux, you can appreciate it during this performance on the main stage of the Conservatory of Nice, through several excerpts of choreography perfectly mastered by the dancers of the company.
