BALLET NICE MEDITERRANÉE

With theNice Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Leonard Ganvert
Piano Roberto Galfione

In Sol

Choreography Jerome Robbins
Music Maurice Ravel
"Classical dancers can move cool." The choreographer who expresses himself in these terms is one of the most inventive in the history of dance. Jerome Robbins' repertoire covers all styles: large abstract frescoes such as The Goldberg Variations, puzzling experiments such as The Cage, hilarious paintings like The Concert, and finally the mythical West Side Story... Throughout his life, the elusive choreographer would make the big difference between classical and musical, left foot at New York City Ballet and right foot on Broadway. Balanchine (who also knew how to cross the rigor of classical with the fantasy of musicals) had made him his closest collaborator. In Sol is a jubilant experience that perfectly marries the score of a Ravel in full musical research. Returning from a tour in the United States, the French composer had embarked on the writing of a scoundrel melody that also wanted to "move cool".

No gods

Choreography Gene Kelly
Music George Gershwin

Human beings have always observed the sky in the hope of finding metaphysical solutions to their very physical problems. Entangled in our cares of eternally dissatisfied Earthlings, we all yearn for the divine but deep down... The gods envy us! This could be the Nietzschean point of Gene Kelly's ballet. The master of the Hollywood musical does not go so far as to claim that God is dead, but his play shows us that even the most illustrious deities have ants in their legs when they watch us dance. No Gods tells us, in the most playful way possible (Gershwin contributes greatly), the story of Aphrodite, Eros and Zeus who agree a journey into the world of humans. The choreographer will take turns discovering the pleasures of sunny sea baths and then the fever of night-time Paris. When gene Kelly sends them back to Olympus, he reveals, as the singer in the rain, that dance is indeed a gift from the gods.
