Art and History Conference
By Christian Loubet
Honorary Professor of Mentalities and Arts History at universities.
After reconciling the idealistic scientists and philosophers of the Renaissance, Leonardo anticipates by the power of his reason some technical achievements of posterity, affirming a visionary character. For him painting, "mental cosa", is the way to go beyond concepts and calculations. He suggests the unfathomable mystery of the world by uncovering in the shadows (sfumato) revealing signs. An emblematic figure for his time, he has become a mythical reference figure since the trials of Valery and Freud.
