The Royale Road is the name given in the 18th century to a road route linking the county of Nice to the capital of the states of Savoy, Turin, via the Tende Pass. The route was originally a simple mule-maker's path, also known as the Salt Road.

Visit to Sospel village
After a short drive by the motorway to Menton, we will go up the Careï valley to reach the small town of Sospel nestled at the bottom of the Bévéra valley. The old town is home to the largest church in the maritime Alps department, St Michael's Cathedral, whose baroque décor has just been restored.
After crossing the Brouis pass, we will reach the Roya Valley in Breil-sur-Roya, from which we will go up the valley at the foot of the villages of Saorge and St Dalmas de Tende.
Lunch (included in the price): We will reach the village of La Brigue,located along the Levenza, for lunch.

Visit the village of La Brigue and the Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Fontaines
In the early afternoon, visit the village and its Baroque religious heritage including the former collegiate Saint Martin which testifies to the richness brought by the passage of the salt road on this commune.
A few kilometres from the village of La Brigue, the Chapel of Our Lady of Fountains will reveal its 'treasure'. This chapel dating from the 14th and 15th centuries is known as the 'Sistine Chapel of the Maritime Alps': its walls and vaults of the building are completely covered with paintings. The 220 m2 frescoes feature a complete iconographic programme initiated by artists Giovanni Baleison and Giovanni Canavesio.
