MATISSE MUSEUM
The Matisse Museum displays the plates of the book illustrated by Henri Matisse, Pasiphae (1944), of Montherlant, part of its collections.
In 1944, Matisse illustrates the play written by Henri de Montherlant in 1936 from the ancient drama of Pasiphae. Made a sharp and white line on a black background, these illustrations, in black and white, summed up the issue of the work of Matisse, in which the simplification of forms becomes a universal language.
