After 1920, the new Mexican State command to militant young artists to huge murals in government buildings. Siqueiros and Orozco are contributing. But it is Diego Rivera (1886-1957) that best celebrates the paradoxical story of a divided country in the diversity of its ethnic groups, on the walls of the National Palace. Like our medieval frescoes, this is a cycle of images for the edification of the people. Aztec Tenochtitlan across and the violence of the conquest are a fascinating expression in large colorful panoramas. The history of the Mexico there is illustrated in epic mode until the Revolution of 1920, suggesting a journey in time and space.
