On November 26, the Bonnard Museum to discover the sources of inspiration of Pierre Bonnard through the prism of the respondent. Organised thematic and chronological, this new hanging from its collections to better understand his work.
This new route brings together some sixty works (paintings, drawings, posters, photographs...) issues of the Museum's collections. Are exposed for the first time, the new acquisitions and donations from 2016, two depots of the Museum of Orsay, but also exceptional loans from private collectors whose works have rarely been exhibited in France.
Loaned to the Museum of Orsay (Paris), the Foundation Mapfre (Madrid) and then to the Legion of Honor (San Francisco), the majestic and imposing View of the Cannet is back after almost 2 years of absence. The landscape, the sun setting, is coming back to Brazil (São Paulo & Rio).

A founding member of the Nabis, artistic movement born at the same time that the generation of the post-impressionists, Bonnard first became known with his posters, whose layout renewed the genre. The first he has directed for France Champagne (1891) draws the attention of Toulouse-Lautrec, who starts his famous career in this area.
Inner life & familiar universe
Basically inspired by the scenes of daily life, Bonnard has never stopped to deliver emotional and very personal works. They evoke in appearance, softness and a certain harmony of façade through particular stories of the Parisian Belle Epoque, the closed family in the countryside, landscapes to colors Midi or confined to the Grove interiors < /C19 >, his refuge of Los Angeles in which he lives with Martha, his wife and Inspirer.
Female and nude models
Intimate life of Bonnard, complex and simple at the same time provides philosophical Fund of his subjects and the raw material from which it gives off his compositions. Whether it's of its paintings, drawings or photos, female figures are predominant and recurring. Of course there is Martha, his wife, which he offers us the eternal beauty despite the passing years. He painted tirelessly for 50 years, often naked and never her age. And then also Renee... More beautiful, more blond, younger. They loved to no doubt, but Bonnard chooses to marry Martha, his favorite model. Renee committed suicide a few weeks after despair in love (1925). Bonnard will recover, even if on the surface his painting remains bright.
The paradise of Bonnard: The Grove
Acquired by Bonnard in 1926, the presence of the painter, in the House-workshop of the Grove is still imbued with the presence of the painter today. This modest villa and its garden have been the privileged setting of around 300 works.
The photo exhibition
The photographer, Caroline Rennequin was exceptionally authorized by the family of the painter, to access this class place, usually closed to the public. For 48 hours, the photographer was able to capture the spirit of the place and their privacy.
Twenty of his shots (small and large formats) is to discover for the duration of the exhibition.
The visit to 306 degrees
Further, the Bonnard Museum innovates and proposes for the first time, a walk in the heart of the Grove. Through a mask of virtual tour, visitors dive into the interiors and the garden of this House of the Cannet, photographed at 360 degrees, discovering the places of life who have so inspired Bonnard.
The exhibition is presented on the 3 levels of the museum dedicated to the clashes and revolves around the following themes: family life & family life (level 5); Women & domestic models (level 4); Landscapes of Normandy in the Cannet (level 3).
