Listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments, Villa Masséna is an architectural gem located on the Promenade des Anglais, against the Grand Hotel Negresco,
The Villa Masséna Museum traces the Belle Epoque de Nice in the 19th and early 20th centuries, when the great princes of the world joined their winter residences in Nice.
It was built between 1898 and 1901 by the Danish architect Hans-Georg Tersling (1857-1920), who was one of the best architects of the Côte d'Azur in the Belle Epoque. He was probably recommended to the Prince of Essling by former Empress Eugenie for whom he had built the villa Cyrnos (1892) in Cape Martin. Aaron Messiah (1858-1940), author of the villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat assisted him. Its architecture is very inspired by the Rotschild villa in Cannes. The chosen style is neo-classical with a strong Italian imprint.
Admire the sumptuous interior sets, and stroll through the French gardens!
