Perched on green hillsides, behind the Turbie, between Sea and Mountain, the sanctuary Of Our Lady of Laghet is a place of grace, a place full of history, a place of pilgrimage.
The word "sanctuary" means holyplace; it is inhabited by God. For Christians, this is the home that God chose to meet men through Jesus Christ.
In 1652, in the modest chapel of the valley of Laghet, the Virgin Mary answered the prayer of the faithful with several "prodigies": healings, return from captivity...., and many others. In response, many pilgrims flocked from Monaco, Nice and neighbouring Liguria; the sanctuary is being re-elected and is called "little Lourdes Niçois". Thousands of ex-votos, small, naïve paintings, currently cover the walls of the sanctuary; they are silent witnesses to all the graces received. Many today come to testify to Our Lady of Laghet their intentions and their thanks.
The shrine is now a place of pilgrimage.
Spiritual animation and hospitality for pilgrims are provided by the Benedictines of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre.
And the seminary of Laghet trains the future priests of the dioceses of Nice, Monaco, and Ventimiglia.
