The International Museum of Perfumery is located in Grasse, the world's birthplace of Luxury Perfumery.
Dedicated to one of France's most prestigious traditional activities, the International Perfume Museum is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the international heritage of smells, aromas and fragrances. It allows visitors to discover the history and originality of the trade of industrialists and major perfume houses.
You will approach the history of perfume in its various aspects: raw materials, manufacturing, industry, innovation, trading, design, marketing, uses.
In all civilizations, perfumes have generated an incredible production of precious and refined objects in rare materials: alabaster, enamelled earthenware, ceramics, glass, crafted metals. Through exceptional collections of objects and situations of different industrial techniques, the museum traces the history of perfumes, but also soaps, blushes and cosmetics, for four thousand years.
This 21st century museum takes a look at the past, but also the present and even the foresight if we think of the section on the era of globalization, marketing and communication and new markets.
Call to prepare for your visit: guide speakers offer guided tours of 1:30.
You will obviously not be able to leave the premises without going to the GARDENS of the MIP: centifolia pink, jasmine, tuberose, lavender, geranium, broom, orange ..., perfumes are born first in plants, from here or elsewhere. In the unique setting of the Gardens of the International PerfumeMuseum, we discover and smell these species that have provided the precious raw materials of perfumery for centuries.
The Gardens are beautifully set around an old canal and an agricultural basin, and in the heart of the fields of perfume plants traditionally grown in the country of Grasse. They are the museum's conservatory of perfumed plants, a natural space that witnesses the olfactory landscape linked to local agriculture.
You will make an interactive and multi-sensory journey! Thematic guided tours and workshops are offered by reservation. Call to book.
