The legend of the Magi came up to us, since the short text of the Gospel of St Matthew, constantly enriching episodes and symbolic meaning. Their long journey, to come to the child Jesus, gave the opportunity of reveries to represent the procession and the Magi, reveries that reflect the imagination of the Christian West for centuries. This is a topic very popular and documented during the middle ages, and especially around the 14th and 15th centuries, but the theme decreases from du17ème century. The paintings show both the wonderful and the representation of the Orient, but also reveal political concerns. The beauty of the Kings and their cavalcade of their attire, bears the testimony of tissues and the shops it was fond of different times and places. Their long journey from the far reaches of Persia to Bethlehem, continues with their unlikely return to their countries and then, later, ends in Germany, in Cologne, where the bodies of the three wise men are deposited. Popular topics for a long time, representations of the Magi decrease with modern times to become subjects of santons and patties.
