Exhibition Irene Kopelman

Born in Cordoba, Argentina, in 1974, Irene Kopelman lives between the Argentina and Amsterdam. Fascinated by the cabinets of curiosity, and representations of landscapes by naturalists in the 18th and 19th centuries, she questions this period of exploration and construction of knowledge, identification of natural phenomena. She has led many residences of research in collaboration with museums of natural history, the geological collections (London, Amsterdam) or natural parks (Hawaii). His research are embodied in drawings, paintings, texts, editions and facilities calling fragile ecosystems.
Echoing the thematic exhibition Cosmogonies presented at the MAMAC, who deploy various generations of artists summoning items and introducing natural factors in their creation, Irene Kopelman will invest the contemporary gallery of the a proposal to the fragmentary aesthetic Museum, offering a poetic look at our environment.
It will present designs of Creepers and mangroves made from records in different ecosystems of the world, results in his research during his visits to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama) 2012-2015). these series will be shown for the first time in France.
Updating these series, two large paintings will be made specially for the occasion, based on the series of drawings "banyan tree".
Eighteen drawings from the series of Crab Pellets will be presented in the course of the exhibition Cosmogonies and will thus come into direct resonance with contemporary gallery.

The artist and the MAMAC begin by also working long-term with the Ocean Observatory of Villefranche-sur-Mer to introduce a new piece of research around the plankton.
