Born in 1951 in Nantes, Thierry Girard has an unusual background. A graduate of the Institute of political studies in Paris in 1974, he rushes from 1976 in photography. He enrolled in the course of artistic documentary photography and considered himself a photographer-traveler.
He was awarded the Niépce Prize in 1984, Villa Médicis winner off the walls in 1985 for a project on the United States, then in 1989 for a project on the Mediterranean and finally won the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto in Japan in 1997.
He has also made many homes of artist in France and abroad (in the framework of projects supported by Afaa and CulturesFrance and the french Institute: Central Europe and East, Scotland, Morocco, China, India, Japan, etc.). Consisting of twenty large format color images, this exhibition at the Museum of photography Charles Negro comes from an order made by the city of Nice in 2001, for a September of photography dedicated to the China the Family Album China.
