Romeo and Juliet offers us one of these models of absolute heroism such as Serge Lifar was so fond of them: two lovers who one evening meeting, break the rules of the clan and anticipate death to to join... An ideal setting for Lifar who action must always focus on the main characters. The choreographer imposed at the time the darkness in the room during performances to magnify the soloists and reduced sets to their accompanying role. With Romeo and Juliet, it's all the "gesture Lifar" that transpires, his efforts to make the dance more expressive, more dynamic. While the two lovers interpret their superb not two, Lifar words resonate and say all his love for the body in movement: "the body of the dancer is a symphonic Orchestra, with its various parts that work together, meet and is. intersect to create plastic music: arms singing, hands that speak, legs who hit and write. The dancer is both the Orchestra, the leader and instrumentalist".

It is difficult to measure how much the Sylphide has marked the history of dance both the contributions of this ballet are essential. Maybe even is it permissible to think that many girls have pushed for the first time the door to a school dance or a conservatory, hoping to someday resemble this famous character of romantic ballet: the ballerina, which in its Tutu white and wispy, touches the ground of his spikes. More than a piece, La Sylphide is an archetype. In the 1830s, criticism greet unanimously this new figure of the dancer and the company succumbs to the phenomenon of the Sylph who became the ultimate compliment to a woman at the time. The character is declined to infinity: creations of hats, chiffon dresses, new varieties of flowers and even a fashion magazine. The writers are also charmed by the creature, Victor Hugo, but especially Théophile Gautier who is ecstatic in front of the Sylph which "shows us round of leg and arm ports that are worth long poems.
