To celebrate 150 years of the birth of Pierre Bonnard, the Bonnard Museum pays tribute to the painter.
by exposing an exceptional set of masterpieces from the collection Zeineb & Marcie Jean-Pierre-River, philanthropists and collectors of art from the XIX
eand XXe centuries

From May 13, Bonnard Museum is proud to host the collection of the Musée d'Orsay through exposure Bonnard/Vuillard. Zeineb & Jean-Pierre Marcie-Riviere collection.

Built with an admirable aesthetic and scientific consistency for nearly 40 years by the couple
Marcie-River, this elegant collection consists of 25 paintings and 94 drawings by Bonnard and 24 paintings, 3 pastels and 2 drawings of Vuillard. It testifies to the close artistic complicity of the two painters during their nabies.

The bias of Véronique Serrano, Chief Curator, is to expose all of the paintings in the Musée d'Orsay, while presenting a narrative specific to the Bonnard Museum spaces.

Bonnard, the "Nabi very Japanese", is represented through 25 major paintings, jewels of his youth among whom, the rare Player of Banjo (1895), the poetic horses and girls to wood, also says The Place Clichy (worms 1894-1895) or the radiant nude crouched in the tub (1918), which is the absolute masterpiece.

As Vuillard, "Nabi zouave", the magic happens with include the series of intimate paintings like The musical evening (around 1896-1899), Mísia sitting in a wing Chair, said Nonchaloir (1901), in addition to the mysterious girl hand on the door handle (1891), The Bureau (1896) and the grandiose project of decoration of a Parisian restaurant, tea room Interior, The great Teddy (1917), long remained unknown to the great public.

The Bonnard Museum visitors discover a tailor-made built course that reveals some 50 paintings and pastels n which adds 20 drawings by Bonnard and several paintings of the maturity of the two painters. These works, very little known to the public, highlight the close ties linking the two artists.

The exhibition is presented on the 3 levels of the Museum, and revolves around the following themes: Bonnard/Vuillard, artistic complicity (level 5); Women's presence (level 4); Scenery & landscapes (level 3).

Bonnard and Vuillard shared taste and curiosity of the trade, discoveries or groping, freedom and independence, but also friends, exhibitions or literature. Their epistolary exchanges between 1891 and 1940, testify to the "brotherly friendship".

Their meeting took place at the National School of fine arts in Paris. Then, like Denis, Ranson, Roussel, varies or Piot, they follow the free courses at the Julian Academy. All are passionate about new arrivals, Symbolist literature, theatre or Wagnerian music. This emulation time, remain the friendship and the wealth of individuals. Bonnard and Vuillard cease to see and exchange up to the death of the latter in 1940 including Bonnard will remain inconsolable.
