The city of Nice invites you to discover the exhibition "Tom Morel", from February 11 to May 12, 2017 to the library Raoul thousand. The opening of the exhibition will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 5 pm, in the presence of Philippe Pradal, Mayor of Nice. Kindly made available by Lieutenant-Colonel Yvan Morel (grandson of Tom Morel) and by the Federation of mountain soldiers, this exhibition traces the life of Theodosius Morel, first leader of the Maquis of Glières.
Theodosius Morel was born August 1, 1915 in Lyon in a family of Lyon silk. His uncle, Lieutenant Georges Raymond, who is also his godfather, is illustrated as a fighter during the first world war pilot. It is an "ACE" of the flight of the storks, which took command after the death of Guynemer in 1917.
Theodosius Morel is received in the contest of the special military of Saint - Cyr in the summer school 1935. It ranks 16th of his promotion and chose to serve in the 27th battalion of Alpine hunters (27th BCA) in Annecy.
Appointed Deputy of the its 27th BCA 1938 Theodosius Morel is fully involved in this elite unit. He took command in the summer 1939. At its head, he participated in the Alps in the battles of June 1940 on the Franco-Italian border. At 25, he received the Legion of honour for actions with his section.
In July 1940, Lt. Théodose Morel is reassigned to the 27th BCA, reconstituted in the army of the armistice after having been wiped out in Picardy in June. His Chief of battalion Jean Vallette of Osia, prepare his battalion for "revenge": intensive training, establishment of a clandestine mobilization, hiding weapons removed from the Armistice commission. This last mission is entrusted to lieutenant Morel who create 30 illegal deposits in the Department.
The summer 1941, Lt. Théodose Morel is appointed as an instructor at Saint-Cyr, who is then folded in Aix-en-Provence. It transmits to its cadets from promoting Charles de Foucauld its very high moral standards, his taste for action and his fierce will to resist and overcome.
End of November 1942, the invasion of the South by the Germans area causes school closing and the demobilization of executives and students. Theodosius Morel, his wife Marie-Germaine, and their three sons join Annecy. Officially demobilized, Theodosius Morel participates to the rise to power of the secret army in Haute-Savoie, under the orders of Commander Vallette of Osia.
Beginning of December 1943, it definitely goes underground. In the resistance, Lt. Théodose Morel becomes Tom. Appointed Chief of the maquis in Haute-Savoie, he received late January 1944 the mission to receive important airdrops of weapons to the plateau of Glières. The Glières Battalion Chief, he has been the soul of the Resistance of the Plateau, its leader and its Organizer. The battalion is, it gives motto ' live free or die '.
On 10 March 1944, Tom Morel is killed during an operation in Entremont, at age 28. He gave his life to defend the France and its values.
