The paintings of Edward Hopper (1882-1967) are silent stories where time seems to stop. The decorations belong to the real and yet they seem to be within an else indefinable. Similarly, characters who inhabit these places are both real and unreal, they are fragments of a pending story which we know neither ahead, nor the after. Voltage, mystery, call of the void and secret intensity transport us into a world where the dream of the painter becomes ours.

Hopper through a silent and melancholy realism strove by painting, advertising illustration or engraving to represent the more prosaic American society. But the construction of his works is the importance of the gap, and eventually be able to see as well a shift, as a time that there would be no end to suspend his race, in a civilization characterized generally by force of modernity. The result is a particular aesthetic from which emerge the absence and the solitude of living entered not in agitation, but rather in the withdrawal from the world.
